Childhood and Highschool

Chris Long was born on March 28, 1985 in Santa Monica, California. His full name is Christopher Howard Long. Chris Long is the son of Diane and Howie Long who was an All-American defensive end at Villanova and was drafted in 1981 by the Oakland Raiders.

Howie Long played in the NFL for thirteen years. After he was in seven pro bowls, named defensive player of the year twice, and earned a bowl ring he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Chris Long has definitely benefited from his father's knowledge of the game. Chris also has two younger brothers, Kyle and Howie. Kyle is freshman at Florida State University playing baseball and Howie is a Senior in high school.

Chris and his family lived in Los Angeles for twelve years while Howie was playing defensive end for the raiders. The Longs moved to Charlottesville, Virginia after one too many earthquakes caused the family to sleep in their suburban.

Long attended high school at St. Anne’s-Belfield. Along with football, Long played basketball, lacrosse, and baseball. Long's high school football coach was John Blake. When Long left St. Anne’s-Belfield his football jersey was retired, which very rarely ever happens. Long was named SuperPrep All-American, PrepStar All-American, No. 74 on Tom Lemming’s list of the top recruits in the nation, 4-star player by Rivals.com, 3-star player by TheInsiders.com, No. 6 Strongside Defensive End in the nation according to Rivals.com, and the list goes on. In his final two years at St. Anne's-Belfield he had 91 tackles and of those 91, 44 of them were by himself. With those high stats he led his team to an undefeated season and state championship.

Not only did Long excel in football, but he was a standout basketball player at St. Anne's-Belfield. In 2003, he won the High school Slam Dunk Contest.

Long worked hard ever since he was a child, which was proven by his success in high school, college, and even the NFL.
